Ocala Half Moon Lake sits deep in the Ocala National Forest. The Lake is roughly 320acres with many trails and dirt roads which seem to go for miles. Some of the roads are restricted, unmarked or labeled with numbers so for those that decide to go out here please use cautions because I know a few will try after reading about this place. For quite sometime I wanted to investigate this area when I read about some of the Bigfoot sightings up  here. So it peaked my interest as this is the one of many natural wonders of Ocala National Forest which is over 300,000 acres in the heart of Central Florida.

The forest surrounding the area has over 10,000 years of history and legends told making it one of the oldest national forest within the east side of the country. It was home to the Timucuan and Seminole Indian tribes which fished and thrived off the land. Teddy Roosevelt in 1905 hunted in this forest as many rare species are seen within the forest such as giant black bears and panthers. But with 450 square miles surrounding moon lake it is no wonder that other creatures are hiding beyond the dark forest. But its also rumored that some of the largest Gators in Florida are pulled out of this creek as long as 14' so I would not be caught swimming here.

There are many secluded areas around half moon lake some say the "Rainbow People" are said to live in those areas which is a group of modern day gypsies this is true. Many ghost tales are told as well and this I do not doubt if you drive deep in the forest you will see many crosses just out in the middle of the woods. But the one famous ghost stories is that of a ghost who is seen wearing a long hooded black coat which conceals the face. He is seen walking the dark roads or laying on the sides of some of the back roads within the woods.

We were very reluctant to go here our first time since around Christmas of 2004 two men turned up missing one a former marine and there boat was found submerged with only the bow sticking up. A week after Christmas they found both men in the lake and the cause of there deaths remain unknown. So we were not sure if it would be a good idea to go exploring here since those men visited Half Moon to test a new motor on there boat and never came back.  We are not saying there is a paranormal connection but to make truth of the situation people have died out here and we must ask ourselves do the spirits roam the dark heavily wooded roads around the lake?  The strange deaths and accidents that occur around here seem to be quite frequent. Hell last year ago there was a story about a man who lived in the Ocala Woods and they called him the hatchet man because he chopped up two women. 

More so the area seems very unfriendly there is quite alot of activity in the woods even at night you will hear four wheelers or people talking. We were chased by a pick up truck very deep in the woods and a friend of mine told me that she would believe it since she told me that there are alot of people who are trouble up in them woods. Of course hunting season is real big in this area and so many hunting accidents occur as some shoot and ask questions later unfortunately. But a big event recently that the Rainbow People have up in the woods is going on so Lee thinks its possible those were the folks chasing us perhaps out of curiosity or maybe they seen us as a threat.

But lets talk a little bit about the Bigfoot Sightings up in this area. Back in the 1980's the sheriffs department found giant footprints up in the woods. When examined the results came out that the creature would be roughly 10 to 12 feet in height and over 1000 lbs. The prints had toes and a human like form just much larger. Then there is multiple sightings of some seeing a family of bigfoot just walking near the lake. One family claims to have had a daytime sighting of one drinking near a stream then took off running when it noticed them watching. Alot of people report at night seeing red eyes and so many do not fill out reports maybe because they are to scared but there are very few who will go up here at night. Often the rangers will blow it off and say its a bear or a military exercise that which we know is not true. 

Although our first investigation we did not bring you many photos there will be a long string of investigations of this area in the future as we will track bigfoot and learn more about half moon lake as members and others submit data to us. This is a dangerous area and should be treated cautiously.  The area is very mysterious I mean there is fog up every night almost  and many strange tales told. Now we can bring them to you!
