Fort Stanwix known as the fort that never surrendered as the American flag flew proud and high atop the fort during the American revolution it has been reconstructed to look just as it did in 1777. The fort was a French Trading Center later General John Stanwix turned this place into a fort. The treaty of Fort Stanwix came into effect in 1768 which also is a big historical fact when it came to dealing with the Iroquois Indians. The fort has also been known as Fort Schuyler after it was rebuilt by the British patriots/Tory forces then in 1777 Benedict Arnold and his reinforcements took it back. Today the fort is a big inspiration as it is one of the oldest forts in the country. We decided to investigate it after hearing rumors of a one legged apparition that has been seen, a woman crying for a child, the sound of ghostly drums, cold spots, alarms being triggered, wood being chopped, footsteps heard, doorknobs turning, soldier ghost being seen and so much more. We have came to the conclusion that the area is full of residual energy as seeing ghost here is fairly easy to see. Many artifacts remain here cannons, brooms, the original fireplace remains, hay beds, old tools and kettles and much more. Many of the barracks on site are said to be haunted and on site there is many different areas you can visit such as tunnels, a war hospital, storage area, sleeping quarters Ect. It is a lot of fun to be able to walk across a mote through the big doors then climb various stairs that over look the city from above. Is this haunted? Yes to much history, ghost stories and for our organization to be able to see the apparitions in daylight made it all the more interesting. Copyright By Rick-AngelOfThyNight Built in 1758 to guard a strategic portage along a major transportation route, Fort Stanwix stands today as an inspiration to the people of the world. Fort Stanwix guarded the centuries old Oneida Carrying Place. This strategic Iroquois Confederacy portage in upstate New York bridged the waterways between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes. The events that occurred at the site included the development of European and later American-Indian affairs, the melding of diverse cultures, and the protection of the Mohawk Valley during two world wars: the French and Indian, and the American Revolutionary Wars. During the American Revolution, British military forces were repulsed while attempting to besiege the fort. American militia and Oneida allies tried to come to the aid of Fort Stanwix, but were cut off in an ambush at Oriskany, considered one of the bloodiest engagements of the war. These events directly contributed to the American victory at Saratoga.
