Forest Hills cemetery really touched me as far as history goes and rumors of its ghost that roam in the later hours of the night. This place is a Ghostbusters dream as it has everything from crypts to tilted stones to even a chapel.  Ghost tours are given here by the town or should we say lead person Susan Mckay called the Harvest Moon Cemetery Tour. The tour does sound fun since a horse drawn carriage travels down its dark roads at night. But supposingly the cemetery has some hauntingly Victorian tales. However we decided to take our own tour and hike in this very old and large cemetery. A little history on this cemetery I think you will find interesting is that burials started here in the year 1807. Technically their are 2 cemeteries here which are partially separated by a fence one called the old pioneer cemetery and Forest Hills Cemetery however now they are all one giant cemetery. Most of the cemetery is very well wooded surrounded by rod iron and without a light it is very easy to fall, trip, or even go off the road. Most of the cemetery burials here are non catholic their is many Celtic crosses, tall monuments, some crypts  including one that is over 30 feet in height, a few statues, and many family burials surrounded by a fence or hedges. This is an absolutely beautiful cemetery and the ghost here are very friendly and loved to be talked to this is what we gathered from our first visit here. The cemetery contains many civil war graves such as the family plot of Alonzo Cushing, a battery commander killed at Gettysburg at the height of Pickett's Charge on July 3, 1863 (Alonzo is interred at West Point). Of course there is many others such as Sergeant Joseph McNeight, Corporal C. Horace Burbee, etc. Their is also at least 15 soldiers buried here from the revolutionary war. This cemetery has it all history, haunts, stories, famous burials, a chapel, even giant rod iron gates you cannot ask for more. Although we may never return here again we do declare this cemetery very haunted based on our first visit here. The question we must ask our selves is do the soldiers of the civil war still haunt this old cemetery or do the first settlers of Western NY still watch over this beautiful cemetery?
