The Flagship Harbor & Preserve is a very unknown place to the Flagler community with its salt march and coastal scrub communities. The preserve at one time was the former site of a Pre-World War II Airport which was used by Charles Lindbergh when he flown the Spirit Of St Louis Airplane. This is perhaps what I found most fascinating and why we chose to investigate the property.

Then in 1961 Mr. James Ebert of Ormond Beach Purchased the harbor from the city of Flagler Beach for around 80,000 dollars. At the time the intent was develop the land into a community perhaps.  Then in the early 1970s it was proposed by the Flagler Beach Commission of the development of a harbor. In 1988 the residents voted for an extra tax which would support the develop me of Flagship Harbor. By the 1990s the harbor was developed with the help of environmental lobbying to protect its natural state.

Today the area has beautiful coquina rock formations, a marsh right on the Intracoastal waterway which we talk about its history in the Gamble Rogers Investigation. It has a board walk that meanders on all these little grassy islands, picnic pavilions, grills, and hiking trails. Their is no signs off the airport however perhaps in some the more areas covered by heavy brush its possible some remnants remain behind.
