The Lankford Funeral Home & Crematory I believe was erected in 1950 and is one of the oldest ones in DeLand besides its sister one that is in Orange City. When I first arrived here in Florida I would spend countless nights walking past it and it hit me quite quickly that something here was not right whether it was those feelings of being watched or rather uncomfortable feelings of a presence watching me.

The funeral home serves most of DeLand and residents in the area and at times rather then it looking like funerals occur here it looks more like an office building. Though the oval window, flower arrangements and double carports give it away. I try not to do to many funeral homes out of respect but because it is a fact that just because there is a cadaver there does not mean that the spirit comes attached to it. However out of the many funeral homes I have walked past again this one really is intimidating.

The home is owned by the Lankford family and its owner formed the independent funeral directors organization in 1992. He died in March of 2000 however one of the other Lankford's and its family operate it. Including one of them who has been doing embalming for 19 years. The crematory sits back behind the funeral home itself and that perhaps is a very eerie area. There is just a constant cold feeling back in here perhaps that is why in the after-hours nobody is ever around the funeral home maybe the family themselves is a little spooked.

I will return to the home to capture some of the ghost of Lankford however for now please feel free to enjoy this interesting little place. I have worked with it alot and any given night I  visit it picking up my mail and often I will just stare back into the windows as the ghost of Lankford stare back at me.
