Last night was a simple investigation but a nice little Friday night adventure as we decided to visit another old Florida Plantation. Or at least the site where once a great plantation once thrived. I spent a good deal researching this place and I was pretty excited last night to go hiking we packed sodas and everything. We did have two other places planned but they fell through when my camera stopped working so we figured we would finish off the other locations later tonight or tomorrow.

We left about 9:30pm and headed on over to the Wild Olive & Hickory Trail for quite an adventure as we searched for Lord Beresford's Plantation. We went up to the mouth of the lake first to take a peak then turned around parking at the trailhead and so our adventure begins here.

Beresford Trails & Plantation

We started off viewing the trail head maps I took a photo of it and then we proceeded into some very thick woods. When I say thick I mean they were the type of woods where once you enter you could not see the night sky let alone your hand in front of your face.

We reached a few hundred feet down the path an intersection so we decided to take the wild olive trail first. The wild olive trail was fairly active right away as soon as we walked on it. But besides active their were many large spiders with webs bigger then me in the middle of the trail. I did not see many banana spiders rather I seen many spiders with these huge fat furry bodies.

Eventually I came around a bend and looked up and see what I would describe as a ball of light or anotherwards orb. It was flying in an odd pattern. It came down from the sky then made a sharp turn around one of the trees and disappeared. It was to large to be a firefly it just looked like a ball of energy.

We walked on and Jason was catching frogs hopping on the trails. We were in so deep within the woods we did not hear any cars and at this time it was sprinkling so our hair was dripping wet. Then I stopped real quick cause I heard this loud scream in the woods actually it was more like a roar. It sounded more Bigfoot like then that of an animal. It was far off but still close enough where you know its out in them woods.

We then crossed paths with the Hickory Trail so we took our turn onto it and began a very hilly, twisted, dark path. The Hickory trail was fairly quiet not as much activity. But we came across a few log benches and sat down. We did notice that some of the fauna here was different such as bigger trees and evergreen trees.

Eventually we found an area that had a wood fence around it so we climbed it and found a hidden trail. The trail was pretty odd since at times trees blocked it. We came out into this giant open area. It was a low area so their was alot of water and high grass. We also noticed various dirt roads going off in different directions. I do not want to assume but if the plantation once stood on the east bank this probably was the site. It was a big enough area to perhaps at one time have barns, a mansion, slave cabins etc etc. Of course I could be wrong but it was the only open area we encountered.

Eventually I took another trail which led us to this barbed wire fence where we ended up behind this very large house with lights on so we turned back.

As we made our way up one of the dirt roads in the open area it took us right back on the Hickory Trail. It was kind of odd really since I do not remember seeing such a turn off on our way on it earlier. We did however take the loop and by that time it led us back towards the trail head entrance.

I heard at least on 3 occasions movement in the woods and it seemed to be following us. It was pretty heavy whatever it was as the one time a bunch of branches broke real loud. But then when it started to down pour that was it the following had ceased.

We did make it out of the woods with some relief and we were just soaked I could barely see my glasses were fogged up even. We had alot of fun and hope to return here for another hike someday.

We then went off to our next location which I cannot disclose yet till I finish the investigation. But when we arrived their my one camera would not work so we decided to just hang out, get a feel for the place and of course Jason caught some toads and frogs lol.

It was good anyways spending time at this location so I could get a feel for the area when we return to investigate it.

All in all it was a good night we got home earlier and I took alot of photos. There is alot of history to the area so I am sure you will enjoy it when the update comes out. Peace
Rick
